In Her Bliss: Ivana Somorai

Meet Ivana, founder of Rhythm Zero – the café that made us rethink what a coffee shop could be. After moving from Serbia to Brooklyn and leaving her corporate career, she and her husband Alex built something rooted in intention: a café where art and daily ritual meet. What began in Brooklyn has grown into 3 (soon to be 5!) spaces across the city, each one filled with art, design, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay a while.

Rhythm Zero is named after a Marina Abramović performance about surrender and trust. How much of building this business has felt like an act of surrender?
"Building Rhythm Zero has been an ongoing lesson in surrender. The name comes from Marina Abramović’s performance about trust, vulnerability, and what happens when you let go of complete control - and that idea has followed me throughout this journey.
As founder, I naturally want to control every detail, but building something meaningful requires learning when to trust the process, the team, and the community around you. There have been many moments where I had to step into uncertainty without knowing exactly what the next step would look like.
For me, surrender doesn’t mean giving up. It means being open and allowing the business to evolve, listening to people, embracing unexpected opportunities, and accepting that the most beautiful parts of Rhythm Zero often come from things I could never have planned."
